Kevin Dearman and his sisters, Jenna and Mikayla, have a new babysitter when their mother leaves for work. Her name is Dawn Hyperdrive, and Kevin knows her as the main character in a video game he plays. Now in real life, she takes the Dearman kids on board her spaceship, the Hero, to help her catch a kidnapper and thief, Mrs. Scales, who carries a mysterious fiery handbag.
