For over 50,000 years, the First Nations people were the masters of Australia. Two hundred and fifty years ago, everything changed when Captain James Cook stepped ashore. Cook wasn't the first to sight the continent—explorers from Europe and Asia had come before him—but some stories suggest that nearly two thousand years earlier, Australia faced its first true invasion.
