Cultural Exchanges in Early Modern London explores the connections between early modern London and the world beyond the metropolis. The forces that gave London its cultural dynamism were not unique to the metropolis, but their interaction in the specific context of England's premier city had powerful consequences in several social spheres. This book surveys several of these spheres in a series of chapter-length, topical analyses, each of which addresses explicitly the recent approaches of historians and literary critics, encouraging practitioners in each discipline to engage with those of the other in a more fruitful manner than has been the case thus far.
