While researching the McKee branch of my Wilson family tree, I learned my grand uncle Colonel Alexander McKee had a close relationship with a Shawnee Chieftess named Nonhelema – sister of Chief Cornstalk. Both Nonhelema and Cornstalk were formidable warriors who established themselves as leaders in the Shawnee tribe. Local legends claim that as Cornstalk was being murdered by undisciplined soldiers at Fort Randolph in 1777, he put a curse on the area. Regional stories claim that Cornstalk took his revenge in the 1960s by sending 'Mothman' to terrorize Point Pleasant. Is there any truth behind the legends of Cornstalk's Curse? Well, that's what we hope to find out.
