Two concepts, in the interface of the philosophy of mind and formal ontology, the "content" and "object" of presentations have been seen as central to the origin of both analytic philosophy and phenomenology around 1900. This work presents an analysis of these two concepts, based on a historical presentation and examination of texts written in the last decade of the 19th century by the "founding father of Polish philosophy", Kazimierz Twardowski and the founder of phenomenology, Edmund Husserl. The book has been revised to take account of the recent publication of Husserl's correspondence as well as secondary literature. It also includes references to earlier philosophy and philosophy of language. It should be of interest to PhD students interested in formal ontology, the philosophy of mind, especially those desiring to acquaint themselves with Central European thought as a counterpoint to German idealism and life philosophy around the turn of the last century.
