Semiotics has been victorious as an international scolarly language - so completely that many are not even aware of speaking. It has merged with other schools and fields, such as media and communication studies, cognitive sciences, biology, cultural studies, philosophy and more. Hence it is extremely important to have congresses that are expressly dedicated to semiotics, in order to refine semiotic concepts, maintain their currency and theoretical sharpness, and remind us of our origins in classical thinkers. That is the reason for a world congress of semiotics.
