When is a love story not a romance? When it involves Emily Kincannon, the geekiest viola prodigy of all time, and Ray Altieri, her high school science lab partner, who spends most of his free time keeping her from getting beaten up by bullies. After graduation they go their separate ways, until Emily returns to her hometown to reconnect with Ray. Unfortunately, he's gotten married, so Emily devotes herself to music.
