Selma Lagerl f was a Swedish writer, and the first woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1909 "in appreciation of the lofty idealism, vivid imagination and spiritual perception that characterize her writings". She is one of the most widely read and most successful Swedish writers in the world and the first woman to be member of the Swedish Academy, in 1914.
