Bradford Born and Bred

Derek Lister was born in Bradford in 1938. "Bradford Born and Bred" is his autobiography from childhood until the age of eighteen when he was called up for National Service. He tells of the trials and tribulations of growing up in Yorkshire, and conjures up an atmospheric picture of Bradford as it was in the 1940s and '50s. Included here are tales of Derek's family life and upbringing, wartime air-raids, school-days, leisure time and childhood pursuits, all set against the backdrop of the working-class area on Bradford in which he lived. There are tales of sorrow, but also of happiness, which stemmed from the privilege Derek had in growing up in the fold of a close and loving family.
