Between Black and White is No Man's Land

As the Great War begins in Europe, a lonely and troubled schoolgirl writes a fairy tale about a lady imprisoned in a grey tower and a questing knight who tries to set her free. A young officer sees it and finds himself haunted by it - increasingly so as the war he enlisted for with a degree of well-educated idealism becomes less and less like any familiar reality. Between the two of them lies No Man's Land - and more battlefields than just the one that turns everything physically involved in it to a literal rather then symbolic grey...
