Basic Electrical Power and Machines

This text begins by describing the mechanisms for torque and power production, together with a discussion of the features of 3-phase power systems. Following consideration of the techniques of power electronics, the operation, characteristics and control of the major types of machine are discussed and described in detail. Less common or unconventional machines, including micromachines, are also outlined. The text concludes with a brief comparison with other types of drive. Extensive use is made throughout of worked examples and comments. This book should be of interest to introductory and intermediate level undergraduates in electrical engineering, as well as those on mechanical engineering courses who are not specializing in power machines.
