Avian biodiversity refers to the variety of bird species present in a particular environment or geographical area. The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a familiar and widespread bird species closely associated with human habitations for centuries. Ongoing efforts to comprehend and address the factors contributing to the decline of house sparrows in India continue, with a specific focus on promoting conservation measures to ensure their continued presence in the country. With avian biodiversity and sparrow conservation in mind, this book aims to provide a basic understanding of avian biodiversity, using the house sparrow in the foothills of Garhwal Himalayas as an example.
