Aspects of Plant Sciences: Plant Science Research in India Present Status and Future Challenges

The study Strategy Towards Conquest of Human ailments based upon Medicinal Plants and Folklores is the continuation of earlier work and incorporates data on medicinal plants collected from certain areas of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Bihar and Orissa during 1978-1984, under four separate chapters Each chapter is selfexplanatory and provides information on physiography, medicinal plants collected, folk medicinal claims recorded, ethnology and other economic uses of plants Taxonomic determination of all folk drugs/plants reported has been done. As far as possible the latest botanical names have been adopted. In the description of the plants botanical terms have been used to avoid risk of inaccuracy of statements. The information on the medicinal properties as obtained from herbalists or medicinemen to a certain extent confirms the findings/exper-of Ayurvedic and Unani Physicians and documented in standard publication.
