Art as Spiritual Perception

This festschrift is being published in honor of John Walford, a distinguished professor at Wheaton College, and makes a critical contribution to the field of art history. A reader covering everything from sixth-century icons to contemporary art, this compilation investigates art history from a Christian perspective. Essays have been written by art experts around the country--from Fuller Seminary to the Smithsonian--and the foreword is penned by Hans Rookmaaker's daughter, Marleen. This book further develops an approach to art historical writing infused by Christian vision, such as has been demonstrated in the work of Rookmaaker and Walford, and reflects the breadth of Walford's scholarship as well as the richness of the history of Christianity and the visual arts.
