Amnesty in Contemporary and Islamic Criminal Law

The question and practice of amnesty situated at the corner of ethics, compassion, and criminal law is the topic of this book. Is it possible to maintain social peace if those who commit brutal crimes against society, individuals, and human values are pardoned and escape punishment? Is it appropriate for the state to forgive crimes committed against individuals? The author asks these and many similar questions to evaluate the contemporary situation. From a historical survey of the concept of practice, the author asks how to remedy the misuse of amnesty and the potential societal harm it may cause. This study offers an explanation of amnesty in Islamic law and the insights it might provide to contemporary law.
