Works Yavornytskyy are descriptive in nature. Yavornytsky one of the first in the scientific community turned to the comprehensive study of the history of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks "History of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks", published a large number of documents. He collected an extensive folklore material (collection "Little Russian folk songs collected in the years 1878-1905", 1906). Yavornytsky also wrote stories ("Our share is God''s will", 1901; "For another''s sin", 1907; "To bursa! To bursa! To bursa!", 1908, etc.), satirical stories, poems.
