The Moldavian elder archimandrite of the Nyametsky monastery in Moldova, Ieroshimonah Paisii Velichkovsky, occupies a special place in the history of Orthodox monasticism and the Orthodox Church.His face miraculously combined the sanctity of personal life, the love of enlightenment, the remarkable capacity for the organization of monastic sociable fraternity, the ability to attract and mentally cultivate numerous schools of disciples, create a large school of Orthodox spiritual asceticism and, finally, a great literary talent helped him to accomplish an important and necessary work — the correction of old translations and the new translation of patristic ascetic literature.
