aHyakki Yak Extant Collection of Works of Toriyama Sekien

This book completely collects 207 monsters' drawings of Toriyama Sekien's lifetime works Gazu Hyakki Yak, Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki, Konjaku Hyakki Shui and Gazu Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro. Under the pen of the master, the monsters are full of wit and humour and in different shapes, deducting kousetsu and kaidan across Japan, likes a Japanese Shan Hai Jing. All the pictures in the book are re-colored. By translating drawing annotation and textual data, collecting ancient books and kaidan, the current illustration of Hyakki Yak is sorted out, easily reading can appreciate the essence of culture of Japanese monsters. Up to this day, the monster images created by Toriyama Sekien are still active in the literature, animation, games and other different fields, deriving Jigoku Sensei Nube, Hyakki Yakou Shou, Hoozuki no Reitetsu and other classic comic works, created monster images are often showing in games, are highly regarded by famous litterateur Natsuhiko Kyougoku, cartoonist Shigeru Mizuki.
