The most close attention in the creative heritage of Mikhail Bulgakov is focused on the novel, which in 1937 received the title "The Master and Margarita". Unfortunately, the writer destroyed the first editions of the work. Only individual chapters or fragments have survived - two notebooks with a rough text of the destroyed novel and pieces of separate sheets from the third notebook survived. The first surviving notebook has several titles, of which only one is clearly read - "The Black Magician". This edition contains drafts of the first notebook of the novel about the devil, namely the last four chapters (unfortunately, 11 chapters, the most important in terms of content, were destroyed).
