He was also a prolific writer in many other genres, including contemporary novels, history, politics and social commentary. Together with Jules Verne, Wells has been referred to as "e;The Father of Science Fiction"e;. Mankind in the making, as stated in the first few lines of the preface, "e;It may save misunderstanding if a word or so be said here of the aim and scope of this book. It is written in relation to a previous work, Anticipations, and together with that and a small pamphlet, "e;The Discovery of the Future,"e; presents a general theory of social development and of social and political conduct.
