London L. Gore is a World WarII veteran serving front-line dutyin a Sherman tank with the 5thArmored Division after the UtahBeach landing. Living throughthe shelling on the battlefieldwas like being in a never-endingthunderstorm surrounded byunrelenting lightning strikes. After the war, London returned to the Carolinas and workedat timbering and right-of-way clearing. He met and marriedEllen and settled in Sumter, South Carolina. Their marriageof fi fty-one years produced two wonderful daughters, fourgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ellen passed in 2003of natural causes. London remarried and he and his current wife, Mary, reside inShallotte, a small community in southeastern North Carolina. In this book, he shares a lifetime of memories fromchildhood to present to include many of his wartimeexperiences of World War II.
