Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The present war has greatly stimulated interest in con tinental literature, especially in that of our Allies. Of all these none is richer in its fiction than France. The high artistic excellence of the French short story has long been recognized and the more important French writers are well known everywhere; but up to the present no representative collection of French short stories has been made for school use. This volume aims to present such a collection.
