Emma LaRocque Reader

Emma LaRocque was born in 1949 in Lac La Biche into a Cree-speaking Metis family. She grew up in a one-room, kerosene-lit log cabin built by her father. At the age of nine, she fought her parents to attend school, where she encountered English and the colonizer's harmful stereotypes of Indigenous peoples.
