Workers at a Therapeutic Residential Facility and Psychiatric Reform

This knowledge production becomes relevant if we consider that this model is recent and generated from a public policy that emerged from strong political disputes in recent decades. The empirical research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with mental health workers from the service studied during the second half of 2009. Through the convergence of the statements, categories and subcategories of analysis were created for subsequent comparison with the specialized literature and government documents in the area. The group studied showed knowledge of the principles and values that guide the consolidation of Psychiatric Reform in the country and, in general, presented considerable homogeneity in the responses in each category of analysis. The general analysis identifies the low scientific status of the field of human sciences and the commitment to the current model of care through the depreciation of the previous care model as the main critical points in the discourse of the group studied.
