Kate Lewis is a stay-at-home housewife and artist who did not quite achieve success and fame. Her husband is an accomplished and affluent doctor who provides for her. Their daughter, Catherine, is somehow killed in an accident that Kate is responsible for. Lies and secrets are kept hidden to protect Kate, who suffers from a mental illness. As the guilt weighs on her, Kate spirals dangerously out of control.
