Watchers

Daniel Mercer does not remember choosing the road. At first, it is only an empty highway stretching too far beneath the dark, a quiet drive through isolated country where distance begins to feel unreliable and the silence inside the truck seems too complete. Then the same mile marker appears again. Mile 17. Again and again, the road repeats itself without turning back, and Daniel realizes the highway is no longer behaving like a place he can simply drive through.
