You have not read anything like this before. Guaranteed. This is a hilarious and entertaining novel on romance. The writer, being born in China and having lived Norway for thirty-five years, with eleven years of university education, has triumphed in a volume on Eastern-Western romance with a sense of humour. The writer has shown his unique ability to observe and describe romantic relationship with a fresh eye. This is a fiction on an entangled relationship between a Chinese scholar Ming who lives in New York and his German-American ex-wife Ingrid in New Jersey. Ming went to America to seek higher education. Then he met Ingrid and they fell in love with each other. The differences in culture and tradition have evolved and kept the couple going in circles of repeated separation, reunion, and divorce. The stories were partly inspired by the writer's own marriage and his personal experience in the West.Lee is a different type of writer. He doesn't like beating around the bush, but comes right to the point: the most relevant and essential part of any characters: action and dialogues.Instead of writing all the great details that nobody cares or easily forgotten, Lee only describes the most necessary, and let the readers do the rest of the job: using their own senses and imagination to participate in the development of a story. Lee considers writers' habit of dictating and cramming down all the unnecessary information onto readers are both insulting ( reader's imagination power ) and stealing (reader's time and money). Most of the writers create never-ending soap operas in terms of character description, but Lee creates a classic ballet: readers have to use their senses to see and to find more. He takes great care to leave enough room for readers' imagination power. Lee asked how much of readers' life have been wasted on those draconian information in the books they read in a life time. That's a crime, according to his opinion.
