Waiting Room (Short Stories)

The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Understanding the symbols and metaphors of Ahmad Rasheed's stories requires subtlety, broad-mindedness, and a study of the universe. He has not used symbols unnecessarily or to enhance knowledge, nor has he shot arrows of metaphors in the dark, but has used appropriate and suitable symbols to create layers of art. This is why when the reader's eyes go to his stories and he tries unsuccessfully to unravel the knot of symbols and achieves some success, he is filled with joy. The artistic specialty of Ahmad Rasheed's stories is that his stories demand to be finished in a single reading.

احمد رشید کے افسانوں کے علائم و استعارات کی تفہیم کے لیے باریک بینی، وسیع القلبی اور مطالعۂ کائنات کی ضرورت پیش آتی ہے۔ انہوں نے بلاضرورت یا علمیت بگھارنے کے لیے علائم کا استعمال نہیں کیا ہے اور نہ ہی اندھیرے میں استعاروں کا تیر چلایا ہے بلکہ مناسب و موزوں علائم کا استعمال کر کے فن پارے کو تہہ دار بنایا ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ جب قاری کی نظر ان کے افسانوں پر جاتی ہے اور وہ علائم کی گرہ کھولنے کی ناکام کوشش کرتا ہے اور تھوڑی بہت کامیابی ہاتھ لگتی ہے تو وہ خوشی سے پھولے نہیں سماتا۔ احمد رشید کے افسانوں کا فنی اختصاص یہ ہے کہ ان کے افسانے ایک ہی قرات میں ختم کرنے کا تقاضا کرتے ہیں۔
