Young Margot, born and raised in Germany, loses almost her entire family to mushroom poisoning at the age of just seven. Determined to rebuild her life, she takes the matter into her own hands, teaching herself German through years of watching a German soap opera. In time, Julia moves to Germany, seeking a fresh start in the country her mother once fled. This true story traces the pain, resilience and enduring hope of two generations - Margot and Julia.
