In the past the therapy professions concentrated on developing their practice base while social scientists examined the relationships between the practioners and the field of medicine. Neither fully recognized the importance of organisation and management in making the most of scarce and valuable resources. This book calls for a more positive response to the new ''public welfare markets'' which are emerging in the UK and elsewhere.
