Warren Lee Goss was a prisoner at Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. His book, The Soldier's Story, is his unexaggerated record of a survivor of the horrors of this prison camp. Through agonizing memories he regards this story as a work of solemn duty rather than a work of pleasure.

Included are the names of the thousands of Union soldiers who died at Andersonville as well as numerous illustrations of prison life taken from rebel photographs. After the war, the U. S. House of Representatives appointed a committee to take testimony regarding the treatment of prisoners of war by the rebel authorities. Among the witnesses was the author and the committee took numerous extracts from this book.

With 24 illustrations, maps and drawings by Thomas Nast from Harper's Weekly.
