Born in Dumbarton as the First World War drew to a close, Margaret Burnett grew up in a Scottish family shaped by English roots and Irish ties.

She found her voice in faith, poetry, and community-teaching Sunday school, writing for children, and embracing work and theatre before the world was once again at war. Her marriage with Bobby Harrison marked the beginning of a shared commitment: a lifetime of peaceful resistance to war and nuclear weapons, even in the face of hostility and prison.
