The International criminal Court (ICC) and Ukraine
Authoritarian regimes, political vetoes, and the sheer impossibility of bringing high-ranking officials to justice are given wide space. Both the legal mechanisms and the ethical dilemmas that arise from the search for justice in a world where might often trumps right are discussed.
The book examines how Ukraine, although not a State Party to the Rome Statute, accepted the jurisdiction of the ICC through an ad hoc declaration. It also sheds light on the multi-layered political and legal hurdles that arise when the ICC attempts to intervene in conflicts between non-party states - in this case Russia and Ukraine. The situation surrounding the arrest warrant issued by the ICC against Vladimir Putin is also highlighted.
"The International Criminal Court and Ukraine" throws a sharp light on the limits and possibilities of international criminal law in an increasingly polarised world.
