The Headless Horseman & Rip Van Winkle for Kids

In the 1820s, Washington Irving wrote two of the most famous and best-loved tales in all of American storytelling. One told of the mild-mannered schoolteacher Ichabod Crane and his terrifying encounter with the ghost of a fallen soldier, the fearsome Headless Horseman.

The other recounts the adventure of lazy Rip Van Winkle, who hiked into the Catskill mountains and joined in a game of bowling with a band of little men who resembled Henry Hudson's Dutch sailors. He fell asleep. When he awoke, he was astounded to find that twenty years had past in a single night.
