The Final Hour

The Final Hour- In his novel The Final Hour, Naguib Mahfouz traces the social, political and geographical history that Egypt has lived through for more than half a century, through three generations, beginning with the family of "Hamid Burhan" and "Saniya al-Mahdi" who live in the Helwan region. Mahfouz monitors the geographical deterioration that occurred in the region after Helwan was a haven for everyone seeking calm and comfort, and the political and social changes starting from the revolution against the monarchy, through the setback, until the era of openness and the peace treaty. Mahfouz uses that confusing era, with all its changes, in this novel.
