The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little

علومی که هرکدام در جهت خود حرکت می]کردند، تاکنون آسیب چندانی به ما نرسانده]اند

but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up terrifying vistas of reality

اما روزی تلفیق دانش از هم گسسته مناظر وحشتناک واقعیت را باز خواهد کرد

and of our frightful position within this reality will become clear to us

و موقعیت وحشتناک ما در این واقعیت برای ما روشن خواهد شد

And we shall either go mad from the revelation, or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age

و ما یا از وحی دیوانه خواهیم شد، یا از نور مرگبار به آرامش و امنیت عصر تاریک جدید خواهیم گریخت.
