These abilities are useless unless there was meaning to the things you see, hear, and smell. Imagine that you are tiny and need to distinguish the footsteps of an animal smaller than you. That animal is your next meal, while the heavy footsteps of a large creature watching you would be its next meal. You need to know if the creature is aggressive or just a lazy fat person. That will determine your reaction: either hide or attack. So ask yourself: Are you angry or afraid? All creatures have evolved their thoughts and feelings for the moment of sound decision, in order to survive and live. As for primitives, it is natural for them to become extinct.
