Spotlight On New York

Reflecting the latest scholarship, this book looks at the different groups of Native Americans who lived on the land that would one day become New York State. Primary source documents, paintings, and artifacts guide readers in exploring the current understanding of the ways in which the Algonquian-speaking peoples and the Iroquois lived before the arrival of the first Europeans. This book examines the effect that contact between the Native American and European cultures had on the people themselves and the development of the colony and state.
