Skin and Soft Tissue Infections in Pediatrics

Skin and soft tissue infections comprise a heterogeneous group of infectious processes, with or without local or systemic inflammatory response and variable spectrum of involvement, severity and evolution. Therefore, a descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out with the aim of characterizing skin and soft tissue infections in pediatric age, at the Iv n Portuondo General Teaching Hospital between July 2013 and December 2016. The working universe was 579 patients under 18 years of age seen in the emergency department for these pathologies and the sample consisted of 262 children under 18 years of age who were admitted to the pediatrics service with these diagnoses confirmed by microbiological study.
