Skills-Based Health Education

The Third Edition provides teachers with the pedagogical foundation and training for a comprehensive skills-based PreK-12 health education program using the current National Health Education Standards. Early chapters connect skills-based health education to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Healthy People 2030, The CDC/ASCD Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child, and 21st Century Skills. The remaining chapters provide guidance and examples of unit planning, assessment, and instruction. Each standards chapter contains a step-by-step unit plan for each grade span (PreK-2; 3-5; 6-8; 9-12), that includes data, standards, infused performance indicators, scenarios, instruction, formative and summative assessments and rubrics. All sections include resources and worksheets. The text is ideal for in-service K-12 health and physical education teachers, pre-service teacher preparation programs, and state and community organizations.
