Black magician, Damien Rathschild, is still Shelton "e;Shifty"e; Sharpe's master. Shifty was only allowed to come back because the infusion process gave him special talents Damien finds useful. Luckily, Damien needs Shifty to work in the field in order to exercise his talents properly, so he's not kept in captivity anymore.
