The Secret of the Morgue, first published in 1932, opens with attorney and investigator Lyman K. Wilbur called in to determine the cause of death of a banker accused of embezzling funds. Is it suicide or murder? The banker's death is followed by the death of the man's wife. Autopsies reveal clues to help solve the gruesome murders.
