The book provides an answer to why schools that serve predominately poor minority students remain "e;low performing"e; or "e;failing"e; schools. The concept of stigmatizing school environments is explored and Socially Responsive Pedagogy is recommended as a model for transforming the culture and climate of low achieving schools. The author suggests that a "e;fourth crusade"e; to ensure equal educational opportunities for poor minority students is needed.
