SALMONELLA in SHOATS

This book consists details about salmonella Taxonomy and classification, epidemiology, source of salmonella infection, ways of transmition and pathogenesis, study area, study design and sample size determination, Study population, study animals and sampling procedure, different isolation technique including pre-enrichment, selective enrichment and selective plating, Biochemical tests and polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Assays, Antimicrobial sensitivity tests, Data Management and Analysis, Result, Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations were included.Fecal and carcass swab Samples of sheep and Goat brought for sale were collected from different livestock markets of Addis Ababa and those slaughtered at abattoir. Presumptive salmonella colonies were confirmed by various biochemical tests and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Assays. All confirmed Salmonella isolates were tested for Antimicrobial Resistant (AMR) tests. And the study shows most of the isolates were from fecal sample when compared to that of carcass swab and most of the isolates were multidrug resistant.
