Root Canal Perforation

Root Canal perforations have always been regarded as serious complications in dental practice and from a historical perspective most likely resulted in tooth extractions in the majority of cases. These types of defects, whether of pathologic or mechanical origin often require a creative approach to management. The word "perforate" comes from the Latin word "perforo" which means to "bore", "pierce-through" or "penetrate.Root Canal Perforation is a mechanical or pathological communication between the root canal system and the external tooth surface. It can be of two types, one that results from a resorptive process and the other, that is iatrogenically produced, which can occur during access cavity preparation or biomechanical preparation of the root canal or a post-endodontic procedure.
