Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. As the account of an intelligent and observant eye-witness, the story told by Francisco de Xeres, of the most stirring episode in the wonderful history of Spanish conquests, is exceedingly interesting. Some portions of the story, here and there, are told in more detail by Herrera and other compilers, but, in reading their versions, we miss the feeling that the author was an actor in the deeds he narrates.
