Raised by parents who had little or no time for love, Earl W. Freeland grew up in a small West Virginia mountain town, drifted aimlessly as a teenager, and wound up like nearly everyone else in his community working as a coal miner. He married and was living a life of sin. After accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, he attended a Christian & Missionary Alliance college and became an ordained minister. He then pastored three churches in Pennsylvania before coming to Portsmouth, VA, in 1959 to fulfill God's call. He built a church and Christian school, serving as pastor of the Portsmouth Christian & Missionary Alliance until his "e;retirement"e; in 1987. That is a clinical look at his life. Dull stuff? Nothing could be further from the truth. At every step along the way, Preacher "e;A Man Sent From God"e; peels off another layer of this man's willingness to let God work through him. This book is an invitation to kick back and share a remarkable journey as seen through Preacher's eyes as well as those of his family and friends. From a young man whose gambling habit was so ingrained he would bet on which fence post a bird would land on to a pastor who would raise up a church of nearly 500 members, you will witness God's awesome power and Preacher's unyielding faith. It includes a mixture of laughter, tears, ups and downs, and ultimately God's goodness for those who faithfully honor and proclaim His glorious name.
