Politics, Foreign Trade and Economic Development (1986) discusses politics, foreign trade and economic development in the Dominican Republic in order to show why the country is so poor and to put forward suggestions concerning how the position might be improved. It argues that a major reason for poor economic performance is the fact that successive regimes have been more committed to increasing personal wealth of the rulers than to fostering the economic development of the country.
