Poems from the Northern Neck

Singular, scenic, traditional, close-knit, friendly, hard working watermen, the Chesapeake Bay as a way of life, this is the Northern Neck, the peninsula lying between the Rappahannock and the Potomac rivers in Tidewater Virginia. It is the home of the earliest English settlements and of not a few of the founding fathers of this country. It thrives today in a multitude of small villages and towns inhabited by descendants of original settlers, Native American reservations and urbanites seeking a respite from nearby cities. I had the fortune of living in one of these small town, working, getting to know the local people, who always knew that I was a "Come'ere", travelling every road to see as much as possible, and getting a feeling for what makes this part of the country unique. This is that experience in a collage of poems.
