Perspectives on Pedagogical Grammar
Grammar has long played a controversial role in second language teaching, but a growing body of research has led to more precise questions about issues that teachers and researchers need to consider. The eleven articles in this collection address these recent concerns as well as issues long considered crucial to the discussion of pedagogical grammar. Among questions addressed are whether time spent on grammatical instruction is warranted at all, how reliable the institutions of teachers are in comparison with those of professional grammarians, on the one hand, and those of learners , on the other, how computers may be useful in integrating grammatical instruction with the individual needs of students. No single theoretical model is assumed by all authors. Throughout the book, discussion of theory is combined with implications for different areas of the language curriculum.
